PSSP Secondary & Special Schools Football May

Wednesday 01st May 2024 – What a relief to have some good weather so we could go ahead with our termly PSSP Secondary & Special Schools Football event. We had 7 teams with us today, representing 5 PSSP schools: Cann Bridge, Plympton Academy, Coombe Dean, Stoke Damerel and Devonport High School for Girls. During these events, we play inclusive Football which is fundamentally about Teamwork, Respect and most importantly – having some fun. We have a slightly different format that we utilise to support one player on each team: down either side of the pitch, we create a channel which means that 1 player can play unopposed and support their team from there. This works incredibly well to develop confidence and as a team tactic. Throughout the morning we use a round-robin format so that each team gets to play everyone else. 5 points are awarded for a win/ 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. Once all of the matches are complete, we tally the scores, announce the results and everyone receives a well-earned certificate. Congratulations to Stoke Damerel ‘B’ team who were the overall winners today. Well done to everyone who played today and I hope you are looking forward to the next event as much as I am. Once again I owe a huge thank you to the Sports Leaders from Stoke Damerel (organised by the equally fantastic Miss Crowe!). You were, as you always are, brilliant referees and score keepers but more than that, you are just fantastic with the individuals on the teams – thank you all so much. Our last Inclusion Football for this academic year is coming up on Wednesday 12th June – make sure you are all signed up and I look forward to seeing you then.
