PSSP Cross Country Finals

It was a beautiful day for the PSSP cross country finals. 18 schools had been training hard before the day to improve their stamina and race time, to get the lowest placing they could out of all the other competitors. Schools were fairly split into minor and major categories depending on how many pupils were in Ks2. This meant that schools were racing against others of a similar size.

Overall there were 8 races throughout the day, with lots of children crossing the line in good time. They all kept going and shown determination to finish in the lowest place they could. No matter what place they came, it was a fantastic achievement to finish the course and keep going throughout. It wasn’t easy with the hills and mud, but this didn’t stop the runners!

What really made the event was how all the children waiting for their turn to race, were supporting other members of their team as they ran. Especially when they could tell they were getting a little bit tired, they ran over to them chanting their name and giving encouragement. No matter how tired they were, every runner finished the race, smiled and said thank you as they received their finishing number. One person even shouted ‘That was the best thing I’ve ever done!’

An amazing day for so many reasons, I hope the teams enjoyed it. Thank you to the super helpful young leaders from Stoke Damerel for their support on the day haring, marshalling and cheering on the runners.
