PSSP Primary Disc Golf 2022

Tuesday 05th July 2022—What an incredible day of sport at Plympton Academy. 120 children from PSSP Primary schools across the city came along to take part in our annual Disc Golf Festival. In partnership with the amazing team from Central Park Golf, we host this event every year to provide an opportunity for young people to try something new and have a great day being active and having a lot of fun. We had 10 schools with us today and 24 teams in total—Yealmpstone Farm, Chaddlewood, Plympton St. Maurice, Old Priory, Bickleigh Down, St. George’s Cof E, Austin Farm, Thornbury, Leigham and Mary Dean’s. On arrival, all teams were registered and introduced to some technique and skills by Jez. Once we had all had a couple of practice putting shots, it was off on to the course. There were 12 holes to complete in total and each team started on a different hole so that we had a ‘shot-gun’ start. We could not have asked for a more perfect day with the weather—the sun was shining and there was hardly any breeze at all to send the discs off course. All of the children got the hang of it really quickly and were soon putting (that was awful, sorry) their new skills to the test—the overall aim being to be the team with the lowest score overall. Alongside the children's event, we also had a competition for the staff  - I’m not sure which is more competitive! There were several prestigious categories to compete for: overall winning team; lowest scoring boy; lowest scoring girl and lowest scoring female and male staff. It was fantastic to see so many children taking part and enjoying being outside competing. With a mammoth amount of scores in hand, it was off to the computer for me to work out who had won. After several hours, 3 coffees and some tears, I finally got there. Huge congratulations to the ‘Leigham Lions’ who took the top spot in the team category/Scarlett from the ‘Plympton St. Maurice Pythons’ for winning lowest scoring girl title/Ethan from the ‘Bickleigh Down Broncos’ for winning the boys event. We had a joint first place in the male staff category—congratulations to Mr. Baker and Mr. Martin who both take the prize and to Mrs Damerel who took the prize for the female staff. Well done to all of our winners—I have already been around and delivered your prizes so I hope that you enjoy them. I would like to say a huge thank you to Jez  and Scott for all of their hard work helping me to make this the best event possible and to the Plympton Academy PE team and site team for helping me take over the field for the day. Thanks as well to our team of young leaders and to all of the staff who brought their teams along and got involved. If this event has inspired you to take part, head down to Central Park and check out the course there ([email protected]). Thank you all for coming along, I hope you all enjoyed the event as much as I did and I hope to see you all there next year.
