Primary Inclusion Boccia 17.05.2024

Friday 17th May 2024 – What a fantastic turn out for another of our PSSP Primary Inclusion Boccia events. A team of sports leaders from Devonport High School for Girls hosted the event at the Life Centre today. We had 12 teams overall, representing 7 PSSP schools: Cann Bridge, Courtlands, High View, Holy Cross, Pomphlett, St. Edward’s and Yealmpstone Farm. This event is aimed at developing new skills and fostering social connections. Boccia is a Paralympic sport that is played from a seated position. It is a target game that involves accuracy and strategy and more importantly, is a lot of fun.  After a quick introduction to the activity, we got underway with our competition. No scores were kept today as the emphasis is very much on just having fun. We rotated teams around so that they have the chance to play against as many other schools as possible. Speaking with all of the teams, we agreed that this is definitely one of those sports where practice can make a big difference: the more we played, the more accurate we became. More importantly, when I asked at the end, all of the children said that they would definitely come back again to play so a morning well spent and a great effort from the DHSG sports leaders – thank you for all your help girls, you were fantastic with the children! Check out the PSSP website for more upcoming Inclusion events.
