Secondary & Special Schools Football 06.03.24

Wednesday 06th March 2024 – a chilly morning but at least it had stopped raining long enough for us to go ahead with our termly PSSP Secondary & Special Schools Football competition. 4 teams came along to represent their schools: Coombe Dean, Devonport High School for Girls and Stoke Damerel (with 2 teams). During these events, we play inclusive Football which is fundamentally about Teamwork, Respect and most importantly – having some fun. We have a slightly different format that we utilise to support one player on each team: down either side of the pitch, we create a channel which means that 1 player can play unopposed and support their team from there. This works incredibly well to develop confidence and as a team tactic. Throughout the morning we use a round-robin format so that each team gets to play everyone else. 5 points are awarded for a win/ 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. Once all of the matches are complete, we tally the scores, announce the results and everyone receives a well-earned certificate. Congratulations to Stoke Damerel ‘A’ team who were the overall winners today. Well done to everyone who played today, you were fantastic and I really hope you would be keen to come back again next term. As always, I need to say a huge thank you to the incredible team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel for refereeing and scoring all of our games. You really are a credit to Miss Crowe and your school – thank you for all your help to make these events so successful. Thank you as well to all of the teachers and staff who brought your teams along . Our next event is on Wednesday 01st May 2024 – sign up via the PSSP website.
