Primary & Special Schools Football 10/01/2024

Wednesday 10^th January 2024 – Happy New Year and what a way to kick it off �� 6 schools braved the freezing conditions this morning to take part in our termly PSSP Primary & Special Schools Football event. Children from Old Priory, Bickleigh Down, Widewell, St. Andrew’s (Church of England), College Road and Keyham Barton represented their schools at our friendly event. There was definitely some nervous excitement amongst the teams when they first arrived as for many of the children, this was their first time representing their school.  I am thrilled to say that the nerves were quickly replaced by smiles when we were underway. This is an event with a bit of a difference: the winning isn’t our main focus; instead, we focus on Teamwork, Respect and Self-belief. We play a round-robin style event so that every school gets to play all of the others. We do keep the scores and points are awarded but today is mainly about having some fun and enjoying being physically active. I am always supported at these events by a team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel and they never fail to impress me. It is thanks to these dedicated individuals that our games all run smoothly and all of the children taking part can just relax and enjoy playing. Thank you to Miss Crowe for providing the leaders once again – they really are a credit to your school. At the end of the morning, all of the results were collated and we had a certificate presentation back in the warm. Well done to everyone who took part today, you all played incredibly well and I really hope you had a lot of fun. Congratulations Bickleigh Down who were overall winners today and to Keyham Barton who were close on their heels as runners up.
