PSSP Inclusion New Age Kurling 06.12.23

Wednesday 06th December 2023 – Today was the first of two PSSP New Age Kurling events – Christmas specials! Our fab team of sports leaders from Plympton Academy hosted the event for children in mainstream and special schools and all were encouraged to wear their Christmas jumpers and sing along to the festive tunes. We had 6 teams with us today, representing Cann Bridge, Eggbuckland Vale, Old Priory, Holy Cross and Salisbury Road. New Age Kurling is a target-based sport that has been adapted from curling so that it can be played indoors, on a flat surface. Each player delivers a ‘stone’ towards the target at the other end by sliding it smoothly across the floor. The score is then determined by the number of stones closest to the centre of the target. On arrival, the schools were greeted by our leaders and shown how to play. After that it was straight into it. We rotate teams often so that everyone gets to meet everyone else and play against them. These are some of my favourite events as it is great to see so many children enjoying learning something new and playing with others. I had a great afternoon – I hope you all did too! A huge thank you to our sports leaders, you were brilliant today.
