C4L Basketball 2023

Thursday 23rd November 2023 – A basketball event with a difference today at Tor Bridge High. 5 teams came along to take part in our festival, which instead of focusing on the competitive element of sport, focused instead on skill development, teamwork and developing confidence. Children from Thornbury, St. Matthews, Yealmpstone Farm, Widewell and Widey Court had the opportunity to practice their shooting, dribbling, passing and game play in a friendly atmosphere. We were incredibly fortunate to have 6 players from the Plymouth Patriots Basketball Academy with us to lead the various drills and coach through the games. The first part of the festival was all about the skills: each team were put through their paces by our sports leaders and soon forgot all about the nervousness they felt when they first arrived. Before they knew it, they were on to the next one. The second part of the festival focused on rules and game play. Initially, they played against children from their own school but after a brief practice game, we jumbled things up so that they could play again children from other schools. It was fantastic to see wo many children taking part and enjoying playing games against new people. If the red and smiling faces were anything to go on, I think everyone had a great time. A huge thank you to the Academy players for all your hard work today – the children learned a lot from you and had a lot of fun.
