Primary & Special Schools Football 08.11.2023

Wednesday 08th November 2023 – A great turn out for our termly PSSP Primary & Special Schools Football. We had a full house with 10 teams with us today – teams representing Montpelier, Leigham, Yealmpstone Farm, Hyde Park, Bickleigh Down, Old Priory, Stoke Damerel, Pennycross, Widey Court and Cann Bridge. This event is a little different from others in that we don’t focus on winning. Instead, these events are all about celebrating Teamwork, Respect and Self Belief. We play a round-robin style event so that every school gets to play all of the others. We do keep the scores and points are awarded but today is mainly about having some fun and enjoying being physically active. Once again, I was supported by a team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel Community College: these young people volunteer their time to referee and score our games but also to coach their children – as always, they were absolutely amazing! Several members of staff from the Primary schools commented on how good you were, so thank you so much and thank you to Miss Crowe for organising them for me. At the end of the morning, the scores are all collated and the winners announced and we all clap and cheer while everyone who took part receives their certificates. The scores took me a little longer than usual to work out today as so many teams finished on the same points, including first and second place. To work out who had won overall, we had to look back over the number of goals each team scored across all games. After some quick maths and much head scratching, I was finally able to announce the winners… Congratulations to Widey Court who were our overall winners by 4 goals. Congratulations as well to Leigham who were so close in 2nd place. Well done to everyone who played today, you all played brilliantly and I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you to all of the teachers and staff who brought your teams along – thank you for taking a chance on the weather with me – we got really lucky!
