Primary & Special Schools Football 21.06.23

Wednesday 21st June 2023 – Today was our final Primary & Special Schools Football event for this school year and what a glorious morning for it. We had 4 teams with us today for our friendly event with a difference: Beechwood, Bickleigh Down, Montpelier and Pennycross. Although each team does play for points, this is never the main focus of this festival: instead we focus on the School Games values of Self Belief, Determination and Team Work, but even more importantly, we aim to make these games as fun as possible. We play a round-robin format so that every team gets to play all of the others. Each win is worth 5 points, a draw is worth 3 points and a loss is worth 1 point. As ever, I had an amazing team of sports leaders with me from Stoke Damerel who refereed and scored all of the games. These young people are incredible with the children and always ensure that these events run smoothly. I would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Crowe from Stoke Damerel for providing such high quality leaders for me each term, and thank you to the young people that volunteer their time to do this – you’ve all been brilliant. At the end of the morning and surrounded by very hot and red faces, the scores were tallied and the winners announced… Congratulations to Bickleigh Down who were our overall winners today and to Montpelier, who were a very close second place. Well done to all of the children who took part today, I really hope you all enjoyed it. The dates for the PSSP inclusive Football events for next year will be out very soon, so watch the website and get booked on. I can’t wait to do it all again and see you all again next year!
