Primary Inclusion Boccia 25.05.2023

Thursday 25th May 2023 – Today, a brilliant group of Sports Leaders from Notre Dame hosted 5 teams for a PSSP Primary Inclusion Boccia event. Children representing St. Paul’s RC, Holy Cross, St. Peter’s RC and Victoria Road came along to take part in our relaxed, friendly competition. On arrival the leaders greeted each team and then took them through how to play: Boccia is a target sport where 2 teams compete to get their balls closer to the jack than the opposition. After a bit of time to practice, it was straight into some games against other schools, with the leaders refereeing. As each team improved, we increased the level of challenge a bit more: first we added one big hoop around the jack ball so they need to get it to stop in the hoop to score points. They got so good at this challenge as well so we made it even harder: inside the big hoop we placed a smaller one – any ball inside that one at the end was worth double points. This definitely brought out a competitive spirit in some of the teams – particularly when they wanted to play against their adults. Well done to everyone who took part today, I really hope you all enjoyed it (adults too!). Thank you to the Notre Dame Sports Leaders, you were brilliant with the children today and everyone had such a good afternoon. Check out the PSSP website for more inclusive events.
