Primary & Special Schools Football 03/05/2023

Wednesday 03^rd May 2023 – Today we hosted our termly PSSP Primary & Special Schools Football event at Harpers Football Centre (formerly Goals). We had 6 schools represented this morning: Cann Bridge, Montpelier, Bickleigh Down, Yealmpstone Farm, Pennycross and Compton. For some of the children attending today, this was their first opportunity to represent their school at Football so there were a few nervous participants at the start. Once we were underway though, those nerves were replaced by smiles and very warm faces. I asked all of the children at the end if they had enjoyed it and if they would be keen to come back again and it was a resounding yes – which I am thrilled to hear. Once again, it was my great fortune to be supported by an incredible team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel Community College. As soon as the children arrived, they introduced themselves and got them started with some warm-up activities. They then refereed and scored all of our games and generally supported the children throughout. Thank you to Miss Crowe for organising them for me – they are such a credit to your school. At this competition, we play a round-robin style event with 5 points awarded for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. This event really isn’t all about winning though as our main focus is on having fun and demonstrating some excellent sportsmanship through the School Games values of Respect, Self-Belief and Teamwork. Once all the games are done, the scores are calculated and we have the certificate presentation. Congratulations to Bickleigh Down Primary School who were our overall winners today. Congratulations as well to Yealmpstone Farm who were the runners up. Full table of results below.
