Chaddlewood L1 Football Competition

Tuesday 28th March 2023 – This term I have had the pleasure of working with the Y1 classes, focusing on developing their Football skills. We have had some fun working on dribbling, passing and shooting skills as well as our team work. As today was our final session in the unit, we put all of these skills to the test in a friendly House competition. There were 2 main challenges where children needed to work together in their teams to score points. First up was the shooting challenge: there were 3 goals to aim for, decreasing in size to increase the level of difficulty and a golden cone in the very centre, which if they managed to hit, scored them even more points. Each team had 5 minutes to score as many points as possible by taking in turns shooting from the penalty spot. Next was the dribbling challenge: completed in a relay style, children had to dribble the ball and navigate the slalom course and successfully dribble over the finish line to score points. I had support from a fantastic group of 8 Y6 sports leaders: they took care of setting up the challenges and recording all of the results – thank you all so much – the children loved it. It was great to see how much their skills had developed this term and how much more confident they were. At the end of the afternoon, the scores from each event were calculated and combined so that we could announce our winning House… Congratulations to Willow House who were the overall winners today. Well done to everyone who took part, I hope you all enjoyed it. Remember to keep practicing your Football skills.
