Primary & Special Schools Football 18.01.23

Wednesday 18^th January 2023  - Even the snow on the ground and the cold conditions couldn’t keep our schools away today for our termly PSSP Primary and Special Schools Football event. 7 schools came along today: we had children representing Cann Bridge, Prince Rock, St. George’s, Thornbury, Marine Academy Primary, Beechwood and Stuart Road. There was definitely some nervous excitement amongst the teams when they first arrived as for many of the children, this was their first time representing their school.  I am thrilled to say that the nerves were quickly replaced by smiles when we were underway. This is an event with a bit of a difference: the winning isn’t our main focus; instead, we focus on Teamwork, Respect and Self-belief. We play a round-robin style event so that every school gets to play all of the others. We do keep the scores and points are awarded but today is mainly about having some fun and enjoying being physically active. I am always supported at these events by a team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel and they never fail to impress me. It is thanks to these dedicated individuals that our games all run smoothly and all of the children taking part can just relax and enjoy playing. Thank you to Miss Crowe for providing the leaders once again – they really are a credit to your school. At the end of the morning, all of the results were collated and we had a certificate presentation back in the warm. Well done to everyone who took part today, you all played incredibly well and I really hope you had a lot of fun. Congratulations to Beechwood who were our overall winners today and to St. George’s who were close on their heels as runners up. I am already looking forward to our next PSSP Football event on Wednesday 01^st March 2023: I hope to see you all there.
