Chaddlewood L1 Maths Orienteering 2022

Thursday 01st December 2022 – Over the past few weeks, our Y3 children have been learning to orientate maps, use features and handrailing to locate controls placed around our playground. Today they applied that knowledge to find hidden numbers and then solve the equations. With over 20 markers set out, finding the correct controls should have been challenging but our budding treasure hunters made it look easy! There were 15 maps in total and the first obstacle was to find the start of each course (indicated by a yellow triangle). Each pair then had to interpret the map correctly to make sure that they found the correct number, or their maths would have been wrong. As soon as we got outside, they were off! It was fantastic to see so many children running/smiling and celebrating their success. We even had a few eureka moments. At the end of the morning, we collected in all of their answer sheets and allocated house points based on correct answers. All the scores were then tallied and I can now announce that the overall winning house for the Y3 Maths Orienteering challenge was (drum roll please)… team Willow. Congratulations to everyone who took part today, you all did incredibly well and your map reading skills are getting better every week! I am clearly going to have to set some tougher challenges.
