C4L Basketball 2022

Monday 07th November 2022 – A different kind of event this afternoon at Tor Bridge High. Instead of our normal competitive format, we focused on learning new skills, meeting new people and working together as a team. We were very fortunate to have a group of talented sports leaders with us to lead some skills activities based on the fundamentals of Basketball. We had children from Montpelier, Prince Rock, Bickleigh Down, Thornbury, Yealmpstone Farm and St. Matthew’s with us today: on arrival, all of the teams were introduced to the leaders and then it was straight into learning new skills. The sports leaders had prepared some activities to introduce and develop the skills of Shooting, Dribbling and Passing: each school worked with each of the leaders and were soon showing off their new skills. Then it was on to some game play! To begin with, we limited the rules that we played with to allow the children to practice working as a team and working towards a goal. Rules were then gradually introduced and we saw some competitive games emerging, as well as some very red cheeks. It was great to look around and see so many smiling faces and it was also clear that all of the children taking part had made some excellent progress in terms of their skill development. I would like to say a huge thank you to our Tor Bridge sports leaders – many of the children told me that they had really enjoyed themselves, so thank you for making the afternoon so much fun.
