Primary Inclusion Football 21.09.2022

Wednesday 21st September 2022 – what a great way to kick off (pardon the pun) our PSSP Inclusion program: the sun was shining and we had 6 teams join us for our inclusive Football event. 39 children took part this morning representing their schools: Bickleigh Down, Leigham, Eggbuckland Vale, Laira Green, Whitleigh and Pilgrim. Some of the children had never played before and were a bit anxious when they first arrived. Once we were up and running though there were beaming smiles and hot faces all around. I am incredibly fortunate to be supported at these events by the fantastic team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel Community College. These dedicated young people referee all of the games/coach the teams and collate the scores – I really couldn’t do it without you so thank you so much and thank you to Miss Crowe for organising them for me. At this competition, we play a round-robin style event with 5 points awarded for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. This event really isn’t all about winning though as our main focus is on having fun and demonstrating some excellent sportsmanship through the School Games values of Respect, Determination and Teamwork. Once all the games are done, the scores are calculated and we have the certificate presentation. Congratulations to Leigham Primary who were our overall winners today – finishing on the same number of points as Bickleigh Down but took the lead on the number of goals scored. Congratulations as well to Bickleigh Down – it was so close! Full table of results below. Well done to everyone who took part today, I hope that you enjoyed it and are keen to come back next half term. I look forward to seeing you all then.
