PSSP Primary Cyclocross

Yesterday, the PSSP hosted the first two events of the new academic year which was the Primary Cycling event and the Cyclocross fun ride. These events were held at King George V Memorial Playing Fields in Plymstock. The weather was incredibly wet but that didn’t seem to dampen the spirits of the children taking part.

There were 5 schools who entered the morning cycling event. First of all, children raced in their own school teams and received place cards depending on where they finished. Once all the schools had raced and received place cards, they then raced against each other to earn points for their school team. All 8^th placed children raced each other then 7^th placed and upwards.

The course was quite a big one with a final descent at the end in front of the spectators. There were some really close races with different schools winning each race. The competitor who finished first would get one point and the competitor in 5^th place would receive 5 points. The team at the end with the lowest number of points was the winner.

In the Afternoon we did our Fun Cyclocross event which was a non-competitive fun event in which children could learn new cycling skills and have fun. The children rotated through activities that included; a slow race, walking the plank, chainless race, postman parcel, riding relay and pumping to 15 PSI challenge.

The children enjoyed the event so much that they decided to do a lap of the course we had set up in the morning as well. Well done to all children who took part in some very wet and windy conditions! All participants received certificates and stickers for coming.
