Plympton Family C4L Dodgeball 14.11.19

It was our annual C4L Dodgeball Festival today at Hele's School and what a turn out!

We had 9 schools come along this morning to take part in our round-robin competition that is purely for fun. Teams from Chaddlewood, Woodford, Old Priory, Plympton St. Maurice, Eggbuckland Vale, Yealmpstone Farm and Bickleigh Down were greeted by the Young Leaders from Hele's and introduced to the rules and game of Dodgeball.

No experience was necessary for this event and instead of celebrating winning teams, we focused on the School Games values of Self Belief and Honesty.

After a quick warm up, the children found a partner from their school but were then mixed in to other teams so that they could meet new children and make new friends all while playing Dodgeball.

Our teams today, each led by a fantastic Young Leader, were… The Mavericks, Rockets, Tornados, Tigers, Panthers, Eagles, Hurricanes, Titans and the Warriors.

Most of the children taking part today had never played before and some were a little reluctant; this all changed after a few matches! It was clear that everyone was enjoying meeting new people on their teams and there was a real sense of team spirit in the Dome. It was great to see so many children (over 70!) taking part and enjoying playing.

At the end of the event, everyone received a certificate for taking part and pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. There was also a special ‘Honesty’ certificate presented by the team leaders to 1 person on every team for great sportsmanship.

Well done to everyone who took part today. Despite the freezing conditions, I hope that you all had a great time and would be keen to take part again.

Thank you to all of the Young Leaders who did an amazing job leading the games and a huge thank you to the staff who brought their teams along – I hope you managed to get the feeling back in your fingers eventually!
