Plymouth and West Devon Primary XC 2012

This year’s Plymouth SSP primary cross country championships got off to a great start with over 40 schools taking part in what turned out to be an unusually sunny day at Staddiscombe.

First up were the minor girls category and it didn’t disappoint as the 60 plus girls flew around the one mile course in a great time. In the end it was Ermington who took first place overall with Cornwood and Holbeton taking second and third respectively.

The minor boys were up next and again it was tough fought race with Holbeton taking top spot this time closely followed by Hooe and St Josephs.

In the intermediate category 14 schools were in contention so the tight squeeze into the one and only climb was even greater. Again the girls were up first with Maisie Howe from Mary Deans’ taking first place overall and also leading her team to overall victory with an amazing 19 points. The boys was also won outright by Mary Deans’ this time with an even more amazing score of 14 points and two of its boys in the top three.

Last up were the major schools and the wait was well worth it as runners from both the boys and girls crossed the line within seconds of each other. In the end it was Hyde Park who took top spot in both categories just ahead of Widey Court and Compton in the girl’s event and Compton and Eggbuckland in the boys.

Well done to all who ran today and a big thank you to all the leaders and hares from Coombe Dean and Plymstock schools who helped the Plymouth School Sport Partnership staff run the event.
