PSSP Subscription Letter and Form 2025-2026

In the academic year 2024-2025 we have been delighted to have worked with 56 schools with primary aged children and 15 secondary schools providing all schools with comprehensive opportunities and support to ensure that we provide excellent value for money for an investment of part of the ‘Primary PE & Sports Premium’ that schools receive whilst continuing to address the issues of physical and mental health and wellbeing for the young people in Plymouth.

PE and School Sport are vital elements to a rounded and enriching education that each child deserves and the Plymouth School Sports Partnership (PSSP) ensure that schools are supported to provide this for their students.  Along with this letter we have enclosed a ‘PSSP Impact Report’ which highlights the work of the Partnership this year and the impact we have had on the young people in Plymouth schools.

The introduction of the new mandatory digital report form will ensure that more accountability will lead to better use of the funding.  Any use of the PE and sport premium must be in accordance with the terms outlined in the conditions of grant document. This means schools must use the PE and sport premium to:

  • build capacity and capability in the school and make sure that improvements made to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity provision now are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in future
  • develop or add to the PE, sport and physical activity that the school provides

It is important that schools make the most effective use of the premium. To best achieve this, spending should focus on making improvements in 5 key areas, to assist in:

  • increasing confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sporting activities
  • increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sporting activities
  • raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
  • offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
  • increasing participation in competitive sport

The PSSP will support your school to achieve these in line with the guidance by:

  • providing targeted activities or support to involve and encourage the least active children
  • helping to provide equal access for all pupils to the range of sports and physical activities that the school offers
  • providing continued professional development (CPD) for all staff (as outlined previously)
  • providing extra-curricular opportunities for children to enable them to access other sporting activities or specialist sport instruction
  • entering local school competitions and holding inter-house competitions in the school to encourage participation

Our half-termly PSSP Reporting letters enable schools to evidence the impact of how their money PE and sport, in line with the conditions of grant and the key indicators.

We would encourage your school to join us for the next academic year, the cost of the PSSP annual subscription will be £5,500 and we are confident that this is excellent value for money and continues to be considerably cheaper than other Sports Partnerships both locally and nationally.  We will provide an outstanding offer to all subscribing schools in the next academic year benefitting your whole school community.  We receive consistent, positive feedback from both the CPD opportunities that we provide but also from our high-quality experiences, events and festivals where children are at the heart of what we do.

The current direction of travel for the future of the PE and School Sport network is yet be confirmed, however we are currently led to believe that future government funding may be going directly to Partnerships.  The PSSP are perfectly placed to ensure a transition to this model as we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our Partnership has continued to work for the young people of Plymouth and has the ability to adapt in the future.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Always Active

With #NSSW2025 in full swing, we’ve encouraged every school to use National School Sports Week 2025 as a moment to trial a new approach – whether that’s offering one day of active uniform as part of the week or consulting pupils and parents about what their school uniform could look like in future.

Are you ready to help children move, play and learn more freely? Join the movement and sign the Always Active Uniform Alliance pledge today, a coalition we’re proud to co-found alongside OPAL, Play England, Play Scotland, the Centre for Young Lives and Learning through Landscapes.
