PSSP Secondary Cross-Country at Coombe Dean

We had a beautiful evening for the first of our two Secondary Cross-Country events this week. Thank you to Coombe Dean School for hosting the event attended by Coombe Dean, DHSB, Eggbuckland, Notre Dame and Tor Bridge. We had individual winners from the schools across the age groups.  In the team event, Eggbuckland won the Year 7 Girls event and Notre Dame (pictured) won the Year 8 & 9 Girls Event. Next week we go again at Eggbuckland Community College.

PSSP Year 10 & 11 End of Season Netball Tournament

The start of the Festival saw all players supporting the PHSG Girls in a mark of respect for their PE Teacher, Kelly Luscombe, who led this team all year and sadly passed away last week.  The PSSP and PHSG would like to thank all those involved for the support shown by the other teams and staff who all rallied together.

The festival was attended by 8 teams from 6 schools – Coombe Dean, Hele’s, DHSG, PHSG, Plympton Academy and Stoke Damerel.  The atmosphere was brilliant with teams of varying experience working hard to get their very best results.  Since Year 7 the teams from PHSG and DHSG have shared a close rivalry with some very hard fought games; sometimes PHSG winning and sometimes DHSG.  On this occasion, DHSG Lightning were victorious beating PHSG with DHSG Thunder into third place.

Next week we host the Year 9 Festival on Wednesday 12th March at the Life Centre from 2.30-5.30pm.

PSSP MIAS Level 1 Mountain Bike Leader course

The PSSP are planning on running a MIAS Mountain Bike Leader Level One (MBL1) -Non Technical Terrain - (2 days) on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June and Thursday 24th and Friday 26th July. The course will be based at Sir John Hunt Community College using the local woods and at Plym Bridge.

This award allows access into low-level terrain, with few potential hazards, i.e. country parks, canal towpaths, and non-wilderness areas where help is almost immediately accessible. Includes blue forest trail routes. Ratios: 1:10 with an assistant – this will mean that you can head down to Plym Bridge with a group of students and use our bikes that are stored there to take them out for a session.

Leaders who wish to be assessed at Level 1 must be able to demonstrate basic off-road riding skills and have a current First Aid Certificate or be working towards obtaining one.

This course is nationally accredited by the Association of British Cycle Coaches (ABCC) and recognised by the Adventurous Activity Licencing Authority (AALA)
