Progress 8 Reforms

The Current Status - Contrary to initial hopes that PE might be classified as a "creative" subject, the DfE clarified that the current proposal places us solely in the Choice category (Buckets 7/8):

However

We are actively campaigning for PE to be included in two more advantageous classifications:

  1. Science (Buckets 3/4): By rebranding GCSE PE as "Sport Science," we can advocate for its inclusion as an applied science.
  2. Creative Subjects/Breadth (Buckets 5/6): We are pushing for PE to join the creative subject list (alongside Art, Music, Dance, D&T and Drama).

Action Required: Your Voice Matters

Even if the status quo remains, the new system reduces competition with other subjects. However, we have a window of opportunity until May 4th to influence this. The DfE has indicated that high response volumes from teachers and schools can trigger a re-classification.
