Fund Race Guide Dogs sports challenge

Looking for fun, simple and inclusive ideas for sports events? Well, look no further. Make a difference with a Guide Dogs sports challenge that everyone can enjoy. Fund Race is a track race or obstacle course for students, parents and teachers – with a twist. Everyone in the race is blindfolded and uses a rope or partner as their guide. To help you get started, they’ve created a free, downloadable pack, including activities co-produced with Twinkl, which offers resources for the race itself, ideas on inclusive warm up games, guidance for teachers on including learners with a vision impairment in PE, and an assembly to introduce the idea of inclusion to the whole school community. Take on the sports day challenge and find out more HERE

Swim England Value of Swimming report

Swim England have commissioned new research to demonstrate the value of swimming to individuals and to society.

Their findings show clearly how swimming positively contributes to physical and mental wellbeing, to individual and community development, and helps to reduce the burden to our health and social care system.

Swimming can reach so many people and be enjoyed by people of all ages. It can transform lives and tackle a number of the problems facing society in a way that other sports and activities cannot.

This report proves what those involved with swimming have known for a long time. Swimming has the power to help people live longer, better, happier lives.

YST Multi-Sport Clubs (MSC) Pilot

Plymouth Schools wanted……

We’re excited to be piloting (Phase #3) a youth leadership/ targeted co-curricular programme/ intervention and have resource to deploy this in S. Devon (thinking Torbay/ Plymouth areas).

This has particular local interest as it’s being designed in collaboration with Keira and Phil Whylie out of Teign School.

We’re looking for c. 5 – 8 Secondary Schools, with whom we’ll train a staff member to train (i.e. ‘Train the Trainer’) 4-6 Yr 9-12 students (ideally not ‘Sports Leaders’) by Christmas (pref. as close to Oct ½ Term as possible).

To deliver a ‘big Term’ of multi-sport participation opportunities for c. 15-20 Yr7-8 students by July.

The staff member trained can be any member of staff who can competently deliver physical activity (inc. ECT’s and ‘Out of Dept.’ staff.

This can take form as a ‘breakfast club’ or ‘after-school’ opportunity.

It will be implementing YST’s Youth Leadership Framework and is one of few opportunities that will explicitly measure ‘belonging’ pre- and post- intervention.

More details can be found HERE. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact – Richard Fouracre: Richard.fouracre@youthsporttrust.org
