Wednesday 8th October 2025 – Today was our first ever Girls only PSSP Inclusive Football event! Run by girls for girls this event was one to remember. We had 9 schools with us today for our friendly tournament aimed at promoting teamwork, respect and most importantly – having lots of fun! Representing their schools today were children from Montpelier, Plympton St. Maurice, St. Paul’s RC, Pennycross, Bickleigh Down, Stoke Damerel, Elburton, College Road and Cann Bridge. As they arrived and I had the opportunity to chat to the children, it soon became very apparent that there were a lot of nerves this morning but I am thrilled to say that as soon as we were underway – this was quickly replaced by excitement. We had an all-female team of Sports Leaders with us from Stoke Damerel Community College to referee and score the games but also to be positive role models for the younger girls. They did an incredible job and the children had a great time with you so thank you for all your hard work today. This event is a round-robin  so every school gets to play all of the others. 5 points are awarded for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. Each team played 9 games in total – there were quite a few tired legs by the end. Once all games were completed, we finalised the scores and we had a certificate presentation in the club-house. I definitely needed my maths skills today – our teams were so evenly matched that we had a large number of drawn matches so 3 schools finished on the same amount of points.

In order to establish the final order, I looked back at the number of goals each team had scored over the duration of the tournament… Congratulations to College Road who were our overall winners today and to Bickleigh Down who were runners up by just 1 point. Well done to everyone who took part today, I really hope that you all enjoyed it and would be keen to come back again. I am definitely going to host more of these events – I had the best time!
