PSSP Secondary & Special Schools Football

Wednesday 30th September 2026 – What a fantastic start to our PSSP Secondary Inclusive
Sports Program for 26/27. Today was our first Inclusion Football event at Harper’s for the
year and we had 8 teams representing Cann Bridge, All Saints, Tor Bridge High, Plympton
Academy and Devonport High School for Boys. Students from these PSSP schools came
along to take part in our friendly tournament which focuses on Teamwork, Respect and fun.
We have a slightly different format that we utilise to support one player on each team: down
either side of the pitch, we create a channel which means that 1 player can play unopposed
and support their team from there. This works incredibly well to develop confidence and as a
team tactic. Throughout the morning we use a round-robin format so that each team gets to
play everyone else. 5 points are awarded for a win/ 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss.
Once all of the matches are complete, we tally the scores, announce the results and
everyone receives a well-earned certificate. Tallying the scores was easier said than done
today with 4 teams finishing on the same amount of points: to work out the final positions we
looked at the number of goals scored by each team over the course of the morning – as it
turns out, we had to go even further than this – we then also had to work out the number of
goals conceded as two teams were still tied. After some head scratching and maths we got
there in then end and were able to award our teams. Congratulations to Devonport High
School for Boys who were our overall winners today. Fully table to results below. Well done
to everyone who played today, we were all incredible proud watching you and we really hope
you had such a great time that you want to come back again next term. As always, a special
thank you goes to the Sports Leaders from Stoke Damerel for all their hard work refereeing
and scoring. There are tonnes more inclusive PSSP competitions coming up – check out the
PSSP website and sign your teams up.
