PSSP New Age Kurling
Published 31/03/25Friday 28th March 2025 – Another great morning of sport at Tor Bridge High with our sports leaders running an Inclusive New Age Kurling event for children in mainstream and special schools. We had 6 teams with us today, representing Leigham, Pomphlett, Plympton St. Maurice, Prince Rock, Thornbury and Holy Cross. On arrival, the sports leaders gave each school a demo and explained how to play – then it was straight into the action. Schools played friendly games against each other in a round-robin style format. New Age Kurling is a target-based sport that has been adapted from curling so that it can be played indoors, on a flat surface. Each player delivers a ‘stone’ towards the target at the other end by sliding it smoothly across the floor. The score is then determined by the number of stones closest to the centre of the target. After some time playing the traditional version, we changed the activity to increase the level of challenge and further develop their target skills. All of the children that took part today received a certificate and I am thrilled to say that they all told me what a fun time that had and that they would come back to do it again. Thank you to our Tor Bridge Sports Leaders – you were fantastic with the children once again.

The course provided development and learning around refereeing Rugby Union safely and effectively. This Officiating Award is aimed at gifted and talented rugby players aged 14+ (Year 9 & above) who show high quality leadership skills and who are ready to take their first step into the officiating of rugby union.

U9s Girls Football
Published 17/03/25The U9 girls football festival took place at Marjon University with 6 teams taking part. It was a round robin format, so everyone had the opportunity to play each other. The weather was dry but rather cold, this didn’t stop the girls eagerly awaiting their fixtures. Games were 12 minutes long and teams played with 7 on a pitch at once. There was some brilliant football on display and some very exciting games. The final standings could not be decided until after the whistle of the final fixture that was between Leigham and Bickleigh Down. This game was hard fought and ended with Leigham winning 2-1 which put them as champions, congratulations to them and well done to everyone who took part. (For more photo's please check out our Facebook page).
A massive thank you to Marjon University for the facilities and Sir John Hunt and Notre Dame for providing great referees who completed their refereeing course last week.

Indoor Rowing Programme 2025
Published 17/03/25Well done to all the schools who took part in the PSSP indoor rowing programme, where we brought rowing machines into schools for the Y5/6 children to try. In total, 38 primary schools took part, 2146 children. Scores were recorded from all the races. Each school was sent a certificate to show how far the children in their school rowed. We then combined all the rowing scores from all 38 schools and the distance covered was the same as rowing from Smeaton's Tower to Paris! Well done to everyone involved.
We are now looking forward to seeing some of these children at the primary school indoor rowing championships on 2nd April 2025.

KS2 Change4Life Festival
Published 17/03/25The change 4 Life Festival is always a popular event with schools and this year was no exception. Each child participates in 4 x 45 minute sessions that are aimed at being active, fun and engaging with the intention of learning healthy lifestyles and enjoying exercise. Thirteen schools attended this event and after a welcome speech, children were sent to their first event of the day. The events on offer this year were – Fruit mashup, Dance Academy, Climbing Wall, Minecraft, Fish Frenzy, Target Travel, Madagascar, Space Station. After the next session the children had a lunch break where they met two special guests the Lion and the Lamb, who are Marjon University’s mascots.
After lunch it was another 2 sessions for the children before having a final surprise when two Marjon Scholars arrived for a Q + A session. Louis Beckwith is a trampolinist and Jack Dee is a track and cross-country runner. The children asked some great questions and were rewarded at the end with T-shirts and wristbands.
A huge well done to all the children who took part and did a total of 3 hours exercise! A massive thank you to Marjon University for allowing us to use their facilities and for providing some brilliant students who led some of the sessions.
