  • Please can all PE Coordinators who attended the PLT day at the Devonshire please complete the short survey on the following link. (copy the link into your browser)
  • Please note these important changes regarding the Marjon 2011 tag rugby event.  Change of date: The date has now been confirmed as Friday 27th May. All bookings this year will be done online via the Sir John Hunt School Sports Partnership Website. Information regarding how to book will be sent to schools in early January. This should alleviate the numerous phone calls claiming the entry is lost in the post! Please diary entering by end of January as the entry for the competition will close end of February and places will fill up fast. The competition this year will be reduced in size to accommodate 48 rather than the normal 72 teams. This is due to building work occurring at Marjons which will limit the amount of pitches we are able to operate. We will therefore only be opening the competition to Plymouth schools as West Devon will be offered their own competition through Ivybridge. All schools irrespective of their size will be entered into the same competition (the standard was similar in both the major and minor schools competitions last year). The highest ranking 4 will represent Plymouth in the Devon finals.

(you may bring more than one team- please ensure you enter different team names and book more than once) The event is for year groups 5 & 6 and is being held in the Marjon Sport shall 1 and 2.Deadline for bookings is the 15/11. • Teacher in Charge of Rugby We are pleased to inform you that the first set of curriculum support resources are live on  To access, please follow this link:

On this page (right hand side) is an option for PE lesson plans. Uploaded are Year 7 as a starter with Years 8 and 9 planned to follow in the coming weeks. The development work has been undertaken by the Coach and Player Development Department for the RFU’s Schools Department involving key physical educational specialists. The schemes of work and lesson plans follow the player/pupil -centred model advocated by the department with the resource being aimed at new and “developing” players rather than established rugby union schools.  Hence the concept of a combination of Tag and introductory contact is included within the lesson plans.  Vitally, we have also focussed on educational principles to create stronger teacher engagement, trying to utilise rugby union as a delivery vehicle rather than the end in itself. Equally, there is an opportunity for club youth coaches to utilise this resource as they seek to involve established and new players within their youth sections. I trust that you will find the resource useful.

  • As you will know, today LOCOG announced Olympic Games ticket prices and details of an exciting new scheme, London 2012 Ticket share, which will see many thousands of children and young people receiving a ticket to the Games. A levy on the price of prestige hospitality packages will allow tickets to be donated to schools and colleges in London and around the UK. This London 2012 Ticket share scheme is backed by Government and the Mayor of London. I wanted to drop you all a quick note and give you some more information on the Ticket share initiative and how explain how schools in your areas can get involved. Absolutely any school or college in the UK has the potential to get their hand on an allocation of tickets, provided they have students aged 10-18 years of age. They will be expected to earn their allocation by demonstrating that they really are making the most of the opportunities that the Games present. Ticket share tickets will be distributed to schools and colleges through the Get Set network and the new Olympic style school sports competition. (More details on these ‘School Olympics’ will be available soon.)There are 50 000 London 2012 Ticket share tickets for distribution to schools and colleges in nations and regions (excluding London). It is too soon to say exactly how many tickets each school will get, but as an indicative example, a secondary school might expect to get 6 tickets. Schools and colleges which are members of the Get Set network will be in the best position to secure an allocation of tickets next year. The Get Set website has been updated, and gives schools more information on what they can do now in order to be at the front of the queue for an allocation of tickets next year. In addition, this afternoon, we have written to every school in the UK, telling them the great news and explaining what next steps to take. The key messages are as follows:

Schools which are already members of the Get Set network are already in the best possible position. For now, they do not need to do anything else. We will contact them next year to tell them how to secure their allocation.

Schools which are registered with Get Set but have not yet joined the Get Set network should submit their applications NOW, to be in with the best chance of securing an allocation of tickets next year.

Schools which have not registered with Get Set should do so NOW, and then apply to join the Get Set network.
