Plympton Family Y1 Cricket 2022

Friday 24th June 2022 – A soggy start to our day today but that didn’t deter us, we were out first thing to set up and do some training to host our annual Y1 Cricket festival at Plympton Academy. I had a great team of 6 young leaders to help me today: to run the warm ups/coach the children and score all of the games. 10:00am and we were ready to go! There were lots of excited faces waiting for us in the sports centre reception when we went to collect the teams (some children had even been awake from 5:30 they were so keen to get their kit on and get going apparently!). We had 6 schools with us today: Yealmpstone Farm, Plympton St. Mary’s, Chaddlewood, Plympton St. Maurice, Oreston and Widey Court. It was Cricket with a slight twist as we focused on celebrating Team Work above all. On arrival, each team was introduced to fielding through a warm up game with the leaders. Once we had established our left from right, we were off and running. After fielding, we looked at our batting skills and scoring runs – a bit of time for some practice and then on to the competition. In a variation of Kwik Cricket, we looked at how many runs each school could score as a team over 3 rounds. It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying playing and having so much fun with their team mates. The more we played, the more everyone improved and soon there were some high scores coming in. At the end of the event we said a huge thank you to the Plympton Academy sports leaders and everyone who took part received a well-deserved certificate. Congratulations to all of the children taking part today – what fantastic team work – we hope that you all enjoyed it. Have a great Summer everyone – see you next year for some more great sports events at Plympton Academy.
