Free Swimming CPD for School Staff

Active Devon asked schools across Devon what support they needed to help them with their swimming delivery. Staff CPD came up time and time again. Therefore, the Devon School Games, Active Devon and Swim Devon have come together to offer a free school swimming CPD series throughout June and July to support the delivery of swimming within a school setting. The CPD is funded through the additional funding the Devon School Games have received to support United by Birmingham 2022 opportunities for schools which make a meaningful difference to young people who need it the most.

Session 1 – Thursday 16th June 2022, 3.45pm – 5.45pm

This online session is designed for school staff involved with the delivery of swimming. Delivered by Jane Hushon from Swim Devon, this webinar will cover the following:

• Health & Safety

• Fundamentals

• Teaching Non-Swimmers

 Session 2 - Thursday 23rd June 2022, 3.45pm – 5.45pm

This online session is designed for school staff involved with the delivery of swimming. Delivered by Jane Hushon from Swim Devon, this webinar will cover the following:

• Scientific Principles

• x4 Strokes Overview

Session 3 - Thursday 30th June 2022, 2.00pm – 5.00pm

This face-to-face practical session, held in Exeter, is designed for school staff involved with the delivery of swimming. Delivered by Jane Hushon from Swim Devon, this practical session will give school staff the opportunity to get into the water, watch Jane demonstrate skills and drills and then give them ago themself.

Master Class Sessions – Various Dates, 5.00pm – 7.30pm

These face-to-face Master Class sessions, held at the Commando Training Centre near Exeter, are designed for school staff involved with the delivery of swimming. Delivered by Jane Hushon from Swim Devon, these ‘Be My Guest’ sessions allow school staff to see Jane and her swim team in action. Watch a full session with progressive classes. These sessions provide a great set up for getting hands on experience.
