Year 3/4 Athletics 16.02.22

What a lovely evening for the 9 excited teams that arrived at the Life Centre to compete in our second Year 3/4 indoor athletics event.

On the track there were the following races:

2 + 2 relay

1 + 1 relay

6 lap parlauf

4 x 1 relay

Obstacle relay.

The girls started on the track, with the first race being the 1 + 1 relay. This meant that each person in their pair had to run 1 lap of the sports hall. Speed not only running but also in the baton changeover is key for this one, so your team can cross the line in the fastest time. During this time, the boys took part in their allocated field events, they were:

Speed Bounce

Standing long jump

Soft Javelin

Chest Push.

Three boys took part on each field event, having two goes each and trying to get a personal best on their second go. The field events require lots of different skills and technique, but everyone did so well, trying their best not only to beat their own score but that of the person who went before them.

Once this rotation had finished, they swapped over so that the girls were now on the field and the boys on the track. Throughout the event there were some fantastic scores and really close finishing times, some too close to call by just watching the race.

A big thank you to the young leaders from Stoke Damerel for their patience, enthusiasm, hard work and for setting a lovely example to the young athletes. Some great feedback from staff who attended!

Well done to everyone that attended the event, each person did so well and continued to keep going and doing their best. Here are the top results from each field event for girls and boys:
