Thursday 10th Feb saw four schools from across Plymouth decend upon Lipson Cooperative Academy to take part in the Lipson Football festival. Although the sun was shining, it was a cold afternoon, so thankfully we had lots of games organised. Each team played within a pool and then when those games had been completed, 1st played 3rd and 2nd played 4th in the semi finals. This saw some excellent play by all players, but no more than the goalkeepers for Salisbury Road and Compton, who had to go to penalities due to the game finishing as a draw. Both teams were very professional in their approach to taking the penalties, and some of the saves performed were amazing!
From this penalty shoot out, Compton came out as the winners, so this saw Compton take on Laira Green in the final. This was an amazing game which showed lots of perserverance and grit from all the students involved. Again after the 10 minutes was up, it was 0-0, so penalities were taken again. As like before, the standard of the shots on goal and the saves made were incredible. From this, Compton came out as the overall tournament winners!
Well done to everyone who took part in this event. The Lipson Sports Leaders were great in assisting in the running of the event and refereeing the games. For some, it was their first time doing something like this and this experience along with many more will continue to help develop them into great leaders of the future.
Well done and thank you to Salisbury Road, Lipson Vale, Laira Green and Compton for coming and taking part in the event, although it was cold. We look forward to seeing you all again for the next event which is in March. Bookings are still being taken for this event on the PSSP website.
