YST Young Mental Health Champions Conference

On Thursday 27th January 2022, 15 students from Stoke Damerel, DHSB & Plympton Academy attended an YST Young Mental Health Champions seminar day at Plymouth Marjon University.

The event was organised and funded by the PSSP & the one-day seminar focused on how to develop the knowledge, skills and qualities of a group of young people to undertake the role of a Young Mental Health Champion. Provided theory, practical ideas and resources that will help the young leaders deliver health & wellbeing sessions and support in their own schools.

This seminar was delivered by Olympic Silver Medallist; rower Annie Vernon, who is an athlete and Athlete Mentor for the YST.

Key seminar objectives: 

• Develop a group of empathetic and proactive young people into a team of Young Mental Health Champions
• Support schools/settings to deploy and use the young people to improve the mental health of a target groups of students
• Provide training and support for YMHCs and teachers to effectively use resources and content
