Widewell Level 1 Orienteering 15.06.2021

Something a little different at Widewell this afternoon as we introduced Y4 and Y6 to Orienteering. At the beginning of the session, we started off by recognising features on a map and familiarising ourselves with orientating it so that it was the correct way up. After that, all the children were put into pairs to try to complete as many maps as possible. There were 15 different maps in total, all leading to different controls. If they managed to interpret the map correctly, each control would give them a letter which would spell out a word – the more correct words they discovered, the more points they were awarded for their House.

I was extremely impressed with how quickly both groups got to grips with reading the maps! A couple of groups nearly completed all 15! At the end of the day, all the answer sheets were collated, and the scores were in…

Congratulations to ‘Bovisand’ House, who were the overall winners for both Y4 and Y6! ‘Jennycliff’ were only 2 points behind in 2ndplace for Y4 and ‘Bigbury’ were close runners up for Y6.

Well done to all who took part today, you did brilliantly, and I hope you all had a lot of fun at the same time.
