Super 8 Start Athletics 12.05.2021

The Super 8 Start event was run in a slightly different format this year due to social distancing measures in place and also the use of sharing equipment.

Half the teams started on the track and the other half started with their field events. All schools then swapped around.

The weather was the worst we have ever seen for athletics, the forecast was cloudy and dry however from 12:00pm until 17:00pm it rained continuously to the point that we had puddles both on the high jump mat and in the sandpit for the long jump!

The other two field events were the javelin throw and shot put.  The track events were 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m and 4x100m Relays, each race split between boys and girls. 

The event started at 14:00pm and athletes were keen to get started and get warm. The first track event of the afternoon was the 100m Girls sprint, meanwhile Eggbuckland started on their field events.

The weather only became worse but the resilience of the athletes and the determination to carry on became stronger.  Schools were cheering on each other and there were lots of smiling faces despite the conditions.

The events continued throughout the afternoon and scores were collected.  Final results are below;

1. DHSB + PHSG - 1508 Points
2. Plympton Academy - 1389 Points
3. Eggbuckland Community College - 1365 Points
4. Coombe Dean - 1295 Points
5. Lipson Academy - 1287 Points
6. Marine Academy - 1180 Points

A big well done to eveyone who took part, some very impressive scores and it was also very close!

Massive thank-you to all staff that helped on the day as well as the Marjon students who helped with the field events.  It was great to be able to run events again and see children enjoying themselves!
