St. Matthew's Level 1 Kurling #2 11.02.2021

Another fun morning of sport at St. Matthew's today. Y3 and Y4 were introduced to the Paralympic Sport of New Age Kurling. This target-based sport has been adapted from curling so that it can be played indoors, on a flat surface.

In New Age Kurling, each player delivers a ‘stone’ towards the target at the other end by sliding it smoothly across the floor. The score is then determined by the number of stones closest to the centre of the target. With both year groups, we started off the session by learning the basics and playing some team games.

It soon became apparent that practice really does bring results, the more we played, the more accurate the children became. To finish, we increased the competition slightly by introducing a ‘winner stays on’ challenge – the aim being to get your individual stone closest to the centre without anyone else knocking you off.

The teachers could not resist this one, so they joined in too. All in all, another fun morning of being active and learning a new sport!

Well done to all who took part today, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
