School Swimming Plymouth 2020/21

We hope this correspondence finds you well, in what must have been an extremely difficult academic term.

In early autumn 2020, we provided an overview of the challenges presented by school swimming delivery, which at the time included the temporary closure of the Plymouth Life Centre and Covid 19. 

Set out below is an update on the school swimming programme with good news that the Plymouth Life Centre is due to re-open in the spring of 2021!

School Swimming Plymouth Life Centre

Preparations have now commenced to relaunch the schools swimming programme, with effect from Monday 19th April 2021. 

As previously outlined, priority will be given to those schools who sessions were cancelled in the summer term 2020.  However, we intend to increase the school lesson capacity, using a second pool in the short term at the Life Centre, to cater for as many schools as is reasonably practicable to do so (and in line with Covid 19 recommendations).  We are also reviewing the options for a summer Top Up Programme.

School Swimming Plympton Swimming Pool

For those schools who ‘historically’ have accessed Plympton Swimming Pool for school swimming, the programme will recommence during the Spring and Summer term 2021 and schools will have received notification to this effect.  However should you require any further clarification please contact [email protected]

Covid 19

The Government continues to provide advice for the ‘safe delivery of sport’ and in line with Swim England recommendations for school swimming, local delivery plans have been established. Further information has been sent to School Swimming Leads.

Fees and charges

School fees and charges remain in line with the last academic year as follows with a coach – cost £3.95 per child per day

Without a coach £2.10 per child per day.
