Leigham Level 1 New Age Kurling 14.12.2020

Something a little bit different for PE today at Leigham, Y1 were introduced to the game of New Age Kurling.

This target-based sport has been adapted from curling so that it can be played indoors, on a flat surface. We began the session by learning the rules and skills and then split into small teams. It was brilliant to see how quickly the whole class picked up the game and it soon became apparent just how beneficial practice and determination can be. The more we played, the more accurate all the teams became.

In the second part of the lesson, we played as individuals for the glory of wearing the ‘crown’ and being the champion of the court. Each person took their turn to deliver their stone to try to be the closest player to the centre of the target. The next person in the line then had to see if they could beat them – if they did, they then take their role as the champion. Once again, I did not finish as champion of the court – Y1 were just too good!

Another hugely enjoyable PE lesson for me, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Have a very merry Christmas everyone and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
