Mayflower 'Get Active' Girls Rugby Festival

As part of the Mayflower 'Get Active' Programme, in February 2020 we are focusing on promoting and developing rugby within Plymouth. As part of this, the Plymouth School Sports Partnership ran a 'Girls Rugby Festival' on Thursday 6th February 2020 at Plymouth Albion RFC.

The festival was aimed at girls in Years 7, 8 & 9, who have an interest in playing rugby but are new to the game. The girls took part in some coached fun activities, some contact work and 'hugby', whilst teachers took part in a bespoke workshop to increase their confidence in teaching rugby delivered by Gary Kingdom from the RFU.

Well done to all the girls who took part; it was evident from lots of smiling faces that you enjoyed it and had fun!

Plymouth Albion Ladies have a home game on Sunday 23rd February 2020 (kick off 14:00; on the top pitch next to the astro) and we would like to encourage all those that attended the festival, to come and watch them play!

The coaching sessions were facilitated by Jack Higgins and Josh Skelcey from Plymouth Albion RFC and were supported by Sophie from Plymouth Albion Ladies, Maria & Claire from Plymstock Albion Oaks and Paul from St Columba & Torpoint RFC, youth section ‘The Tigers'.

Thank you to everyone for their support!
