Secondary Indoor Rowing Championships 2020

PSSP Secondary Indoor Rowing Championships 2020

Straight after the Primary event, we welcomed 41 students from 8 PSSP secondary schools to take part in our annual Indoor Rowing Championships at Plymstock School.  The number of students participating were lower than previous years, but still a good turnout!

We got started with the Team Races; five students race to be the quickest team to row 1000 metres.  The format this year was slightly different and we treated it as a more fun, warm up style race and allowed schools to enter any 5 students into a team.  Congratulations to one team from Plymouth High School for Girls who managed to row 1000 metres in an incredible 03:22.8 minutes, followed by Eggbuckland Community College in 03:45.8 minutes!

Following the team races, we ran the individual title races; students row for a set time depending on their year group;

  • Year 7 Male - Congratulations to Joe from Eggbuckland with 477 metres in 2 minutes
  • Year 7 Female - Congratulations to Rosa from Plymouth High School for Girls with 466 metres in 2 minutes
  • Year 8 Male - Congratulations to Oliver from Devonport High School for Boys with 729 metres in 3 minutes
  • Year 8 Female - Congratulations to Maddy from Devonport High School for Boys with 737 metres in 3 minutes
  • Year 9 Male - Congratulations to Joel from Stoke Damerel Community College with 999 metres in 4 minutes
  • Year 9 Female - Congratulations to Charley from Plymstock School with 961 metres in 4 minutes
  • Year 10 Female - Congratulations to Niamh from Plymouth High School for Girls with 1242 metres in 5 minutes

Well done to everyone who came along and took part.  The atmosphere was amazing with so much support and encouragement from parents, teachers and fellow students!

Thank you to the parents, teachers, et al. for bringing the students along to the event, it would not be possible without your commitment and support!

Thank you to Mrs Hughes for organising the Leaders from Plymstock School, who stayed late into the evening to help us with this event and to Mr Rob Pearsall at Plymstock School for hosting, it is much appreciated.

Finally, thank you to the rest of the PSSP Team, who made this event the success it was!
