The Schools Challenge is always a very popular event and in line with health and safety requirements, there is a maximum number of children that can take part on the Hoe. Last year, we saw the introduction of the primary At Schools Challenge, where pupils complete 12.1 miles at their school and then complete their final mile, also at school, sometime during the week after the Half Marathon.
All pupils taking part, whether on the Hoe or the At Schools Challenge receive the same medal, t-shirt and goody bag! Due to the nature of the event, there isnt a maximum number of children who can take part in the At Schools Challenge - you could enter the whole school if you want!
Pomphlett Primary School were one of the schools that entered this in 2019 and their PE Coordinator, Sarah Jarvis, had this to say;
"As part of the Schools Challenge event, Pomphlett took part in the At Schools Challenge in 2019. As a school we always have high numbers of pupils participating in sports competitions, but we have always decided to just take Years 5 and 6 to the Hoe on the Sunday morning. This is due to the amount of staff availability and the chance for children to work towards something special as they move through KS2.
The At Schools Challenge is a perfect halfway point for the younger children as they train alongside our 5s and 6s in school and really feel part of a bigger event. They receive the same goody bag and t-shirt as those on the Hoe and we make the same fuss over them with medals being presented in assembly. I would highly recommend this event as it allows a higher amount of pupils to participate without any extra workload for staff - a brilliant bonus!"
Information for 2020 was sent out to schools last week. We'd like to see lots more schools taking part in the At Schools Challenge!
