Super 8 Start Athletics

On Tuesday 7th May the Super 8 Start athletics was held at Brickfields with 8 teams entering overall. Parents and colleagues also turned up to support their young athletes.

What Does Schools Super 8 Look Like?

  • Four track events cover core disciplines of: short sprint, long sprint, hurdles and mid distance
  • Four field events cover: two jumps and two throws (high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin)
  • The more complex/technical events such as triple jump, pole vault, hammer and discus are excluded
  • Three relays (boys and girls 4 x 100m and mixed 8 x medley relay) means all 16 team members compete in a relay
  • With eight core events and each athlete doing one track and one field event, there are two boys and two girls per event per team.

Super 8 Start they take part in these events: 70m hurdles (girls) and 75m hurdles (boys), 200m and 800m.

The top four teams will be going on to represent their schools and Plymouth in June at the Level 3 Devon Summer School Games

A huge thank you to all the leaders from Stoke Damerel, St Boniface’s and Notre Dame did a fantastic job on taking charge of the fields events and helped our official’s time keep the races.

A big well done to all athletes who took part and congratulations to the Eggbuckland CC, Plympton Academy, DHSG/DHSB and St Boniface’s/PHSG who will now represent Plymouth at the Level 3.
