Primary Inclusive Football 06.03.2019

Another fantastic turn out for our termly PSSP Inclusive Football event at Goals this morning.

8 teams braved the forecast with me to come along to take part in our friendly, round-robin event. Teams from Cann Bridge, Montpelier (x2), Old Priory,  Oreston, Pomphlett and St. George’s were all hopeful of being today’s winners.

Today’s event was slightly different from our normal inclusive event in that the winners from today will be invited along to a finals day being organised by Ashley Harris from Devon FA.

Although there was more to play for today, this is always a competition with a bit of a difference…schools do compete for points but the emphasis is mainly on promoting excellent qualities such as Respect, Team Work and Determination.

Everyone who takes part in our event receives a certificate but the staff from each of the schools get to select just one of their children to receive a special medal for displays of outstanding sportsmanship. This is always such an unenviable task as all of the children play with respect for each other and an enjoyment that is infectious.

When all matches were played, it was time to collate the scores. 5 points are awarded for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. In the end we had two teams tied for 5th place and two tied for 2nd; in order to work out the final results, we looked back over the scores from each game and totalled the number of goals scored by each team.

Congratulations to Montpelier ‘B’ team who were our overall winners and to Oreston, who just pipped Pomphlett to the post to take second place.

Well done to everyone who took part today, you played brilliantly, and I hope that you enjoyed the morning as much as I did. I would like to say a huge thank you to the Young Leaders from Devonport High School for Girls who did an amazing job at refereeing for us today and thank you to all of the staff who took a chance on the weather with me and still brought their teams along.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our next event in May!
