Secondary Inclusive Football 02.05.2018

Wednesday 2nd May 2018 – Another fantastic turnout for our termly Secondary Inclusive Football event at Goals. 8 teams came along this morning to take part in our friendly competition with a twist.

Students from Heles, St. Boniface, Marine Academy and Plympton Academy all came along to compete for points to take top spot but there is also a strong focus on Respect, Determination and Team Work. We play a round-robin competition with 5 points being awarded for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss and the top team receives the golden winners certificates. Everyone who takes part today receives a certificate but there is also a very special medal up for grabs by one individual on every team; this person is selected by their teachers for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship qualities.

It was apparent from the first game today just how evenly matched some of our teams were, with 3 draws in the first round. In the end it was Heles ‘A’ team that were our overall winners with St. Boniface ‘A’ only 2 points behind in second place – congratulations to you both.

All of the teams that took part today played some great Football so well done to you all. I would like to say a huge thank you as always to the young leaders from Stoke Damerel who were on hand to referee and score all of our games. Sometimes being a referee can be a thankless task but the success of these events is all down to your hard work and great refereeing. In fact, it was my pleasure to award an additional medal today to one of our referees – Emile – for conducting himself with professional integrity and dealing with a situation calmly and efficiently – other staff noticed and commented on how well you handled it and I thought that you did an incredible job – well done!

Thank you to the staff that brave the cold conditions with me, all to make sure that their teams can take part – I hope you enjoy these events as much as I do. The next one is coming up on Wednesday 04th July 2018 – I look forward to seeing you all there.
