Primary Inclusive Football 08.11.2017

Another fantastic morning of sport at Goals today for our termly Primary Inclusive Football festival.

We had a full house with 10 teams taking part this morning. Teams from Oreston, Stoke Damerel Primary, The Cathedral School, Plympton St. Maurice, Woodford, Elburton, Glen Park, Old Priory, Pomphlett and Cann Bridge all came along to take part in our friendly and fully inclusive event.

There is a competitive element to this event and there is an overall winner but this is never the only focus for us on these days. We take this opportunity to celebrate many of the School Games Values and put a particular emphasis on Respect, Determination and Team Work. With this in mind we celebrate these fantastic qualities by asking each member of staff to nominate one person from each of their teams to receive a very special medal for displays of these outstanding qualities. This is always such an unenviable task as all of the young people behave with impeccable sportsmanship and manners throughout. Congratulations if you were the lucky recipient of this award today – you must have really impressed your teachers!

All of the children taking part today received a certificate and also a sticker for Respect in sport which they were encouraged to take back to their schools to talk about how they made sure to thank the referees/shake hands with the other team etc.

The scoring for this event is done on a points system; 5 points for a win/3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. Our overall winning team today was Woodford Primary who racked up hugely impressive 41 points. Close behind them in second place was Oreston Primary on 39 points. We had 2 teams tied on 31 points for 3rd place so I needed to work out the total number of goals scored by each team – Plympton St. Maurice took third place in the end over Glen Park but there was only 1 goal in it. Full table of results below.

Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who took part today – there was some excellent Football being played and even more importantly, some outstanding displays of team work and respect for others.

Once again we had some brilliant young leaders from Stoke Damerel Community College on hand to referee and score all of the games for us – one of the teachers commented on what a well organised event this is and this is all thanks to the quality of the young leaders – without you these events would never run this smoothly so thank you all so much and thank you Mr. Thomas for arranging them for me.

Thank you to all of the staff and teachers that send/bring along their teams – I hope that you enjoy these events as much as I do. I am already looking forward to our next one on Wednesday 17th January 2018.
