Sir John Hunt CSC at the Devon Ability Games

On Thursday 27th April, we took 27 Year 7 students from Sir John Hunt Community Sports College to the Life Centre to take part in the Level 3 Devon Ability Games. The students had qualified for this event by doing amazingly well at the Level 2 games held in March at the University of St Mark & St John.

The students were split in to teams and in the morning took part in the competition element of the Games. They participated in sports such as archery, New Age Kurling, seated volleyball and mini tennis, all events were aimed at inclusive participation. The students did amazingly well during their morning session and as a result, they managed to pick up a number of medals for the College including Bronze in the tennis and an individual medal for Summer for her outstanding effort in the Seated Volleyball.

During the afternoon they were able to spend time in small groups taking part in the taster sessions that were on offer.  These included table cricket, frisbee golf, dance, taiko drumming, cage basketball and rock climbing. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to try new activities and to explore what the life centre had to offer.

Throughout the day the students demonstrated excellent team work, perseverance and were a credit to the College…I think it can be summed up by a quote from Malachi “I am having so much fun I forgot I was on a school trip”.
