Change for Life Festival 20.03.17

Our first Change for Life Festival was held on the 20thMarch where we worked with Marjons to run a day of different, non-competitive activities for years 3-6 to challenge themselves, have fun and learn about how to lead healthier lifestyles.

Over 150 pupils attended and challenged themselves throughout the day on activities such as, Net and Wall games, taking part on the Climbing wall, Invasion Games, Dance and movement, Mindfulness (Yoga), Fruit themed Orienteering, making their own smoothies on a smoothie bike and a relay on a giant Inflatable Assault course!

The day started with a mass wake and shake warm up by the mascots of St Mark and St John, getting all the excitable participants ready to go for their fun filled day ahead!

Our guest speaker and helper for the day was Olympic Bronze medallist Cassie Patten, a 10km open water swimmer who has competed and medalled in many British and World championships over her swimming career. Each pupil got the opportunity to meet and ask her lots of questions from how she started swimming to her favourite flavour ice cream! They even got to see her Medal from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Throughout the day the Olympic values were promoted; determination, honesty, passion, respect, self- belief and teamwork. With a collectable reward from each activity when one of these were shown.

From the amount of red faces and smiles across the day it was a very successful and enjoyable event!

On behalf of the team, a huge thank you to all the Marjons students for helping to organise activity stations and the event on the day, but also to Cassie Patten for willingly supporting the event (and being asked for her signature over 150 times!) There was nothing but positive feedback.
