Primary & Special Schools Football 09.11.16

Wednesday 09th November 2016

What a fantastic morning of Football at Goals for our termly festival for primary age children in mainstream and special schools.

We had an impressive 8 teams come along this morning to take part in our friendly yet competitive event. Teams from Austin Farm, Woodford, Oreston, Victoria Road, Marine Academy Primary, Leigham and The Cathedral School of St Mary, all came along with some very keen young people to try to win the coveted top spot.

It was great to see so many new schools taking part and we hope that they will continue to attend. As well as the chance to win bragging rights, all of the children taking part today received a certificate but there was also an opportunity for one person on every team to take home a very special medal; staff were given the unenviable job of selecting just one of their players to receive a medal for displays of outstanding qualities such as Team Work, Respect and Determination. Congratulations if you were the lucky recipient identified by your teacher – you must have done something to really impress them!

Congratulations to everyone who took part – you all played incredibly well and all of the games were a joy to watch. Well done to Woodford Primary who were our overall winners on the day – you played with such determination. A full table of results can be found below. As always, our young leaders from Stoke Damerel were fantastic – they helped to warm up the children, refereed all of the games and were brilliant with the children – thank you so much Mr. Thomas for arranging them for me. This event is one of my favourites throughout the whole year and one of the teachers that attended the event summed it up perfectly…

“The children were absolutely buzzing afterwards and this carried on throughout the school day. One of our boys actually said "This is the best football I have ever played!" How fabulous that he could feel like that! This is what's it's all about and those children had the highest self esteem in the world yesterday.”

Our next Primary age group event is on Wednesday 11th January 2017 – sign up via the PSSP website to reserve you place or get in touch and I will book you on. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
