PSSP Primary PE Conference 2016

On Wednesday 14th September we held our annual Primary PE Conference at the University of St Mark and St John where over 110 delegates attended.

The day started with a keynote speech delivered by Professor Brendon Noble of the University of St Mark and St John. The speech was about the obesity crisis and how primary schools can create positive behaviours early in life to create positive habits for later life. The speech was very engaging and thought provoking.

School Games Organiser, Lance Chatfield, presented certificates to each school that had been awarded their School Games Mark – well done to those schools!

David Greenwood from Everyone Active came along to present the school swimming awards; Oakwood Primary School won the award for most improved school, Riverside School won the award for innovation thanks to their after school swimming programme and Stuart Road Primary School won the award for top performing school.

Delegates then attended their choice of the following workshops:

  • TOPS Gymnastics delivered by Sharon Kee of the Youth Sport Trust

  • MultiSkills Activities for KS1 delivered by Howard Turner of the Plymouth School Sports Partnership

  • An Introduction to Real PE delivered by Gill Cameron of Create Development

  • Social Media and School Games Mark delivered by Lance Chatfield and Todd Hanrahan of the Plymouth School Sports Partnership

  • Primary Dance and Parkour delivered by Benjamin Dunks of Attik Dance

  • Invasion Games for KS2 delivered by Jamie Oxley of the University of St Mark & St John and Jez Wilmott of Central Park Golf

It was a superb day and the feedback has been very positive. We would like to thank Professor Noble, David Greenwood and also the University of St Mark & St John.

Thank you and well done to Sharon Kee, Howard Turner, Gill Cameron, Lance Chatfield, Todd Hanrahan, Benjamin Dunks, Jez Willmott and Jamie Oxley for running such fantastic workshops and well done to the PSSP team for all your help in organising such a successful day.
