Schools Challenge Raises Over £13000

We have now had the majority of the money raised donated we believe as the schools as soon to break up and I am pleased to announce so far the event has raised £13.075.83 which is incredible, so thank you so much!! We think a few schools may follow on from last year where they send there money in on there return from summer but I will keep you posted. Just to put that amazing total into context, the money you have allowed to try and raise for young people with cancer through the Plymouth Half Marathon Schools Challenge could fund either of the following:

·         Could pay a room for 13 months in one of CLIC Sargent’s Homes from Home, providing free self-catering accommodation near to specialist children’s cancer treatment centres, which are often many miles from a family’s own home. Staying in a Home from Home ensures a family can be close to their child during treatment. The atmosphere in a Home from Home is friendly and welcoming. If they are well enough, the child or young person can stay there too.

·         Could pay for a CLIC Sargent Play Specialist’s time for just under 6 months, so that they can help a child prepare for and cope with treatment, by using models, toys and photos to explain what will happen.

·         Could pay for a CLIC Sargent Nurse’s time for 3 months, so that they can coordinate clinical and non-clinical care for children with cancer, to maximise the amount of time they can safely spend at home, and ensure that treatments can be given closer to home where possible.

As you can see from above the money raised by the Plymouth schools will have an amazing impact on the young people and families going through a childhood cancer.

Many thanks
